Last month we introduced Katelyn Jones, a cosmetology student at TSB. We will be following Katelyn over the next 10 months as she completes her education.
A few weeks ago, Katelyn and her class all completed their work in the classroom and passed their tests to start working on the salon floor. They spent the first week assisting the senior stylists and practicing techniques in our salon classroom. We sat down with Katelyn to find out how everything was going so far.
What has it been like to be working in the student salon?
“I like meeting people that I have never met before. It’s a lot of fun and I get to talk to a lot of different people all day! I was really proud when I finished a service on my first client. I felt a lot less nervous after that and now I cannot wait to work on more!”
What is the biggest difference between being in the classroom and working in the student salon?
“The salon floor is a lot more realistic because we are working on real clients. It was fun to learn something new every day in the classroom, but the work is different when it is on a real person.”
What advice would you give to the next class of students coming into the student salon?
“I would tell them not to be too nervous, because it is always easy to find help when you need it! There is always an instructor available when you have questions or need help.”
You are learning Redken product knowledge in your study class right now. How has that been going?
“It has been really great! I never knew that Redken had so many products for every single hair type. I cannot wait to try all of them. I also love Redken hair color, and so do the clients!”
.Right before starting on the salon floor, Katelyn made a pretty big change to her hair and we wanted to share!
